This policy explains what information the BlueCard app (“BlueCard”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) uses, why, and what
choices you have. It applies to BlueCard for Android (package nl.bluecard.app) and BlueCard for iOS.
BlueCard is published by TIS-WAS-HERE, who is responsible for the processing described here.
- BlueCard has no accounts and no servers of its own. We do not receive, store or sell your personal data.
- Your player name, avatar, settings, saved games and scores stay on your device.
- When you play with others nearby, your name, avatar and moves go directly from your phone to theirs over Bluetooth.
- The Android app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect data for this; in the EEA, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent first.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your payment details.
1. Information stored only on your device
The app saves the following on your device so it works the way you left it. It is not sent to us.
- Player name and avatar. The name you choose and the avatar you pick. If you choose a photo as avatar, you select one picture with the system photo picker; the app only receives that picture, cuts out a small round image (a few kilobytes) and keeps only that small image.
- Settings and house rules, such as sound, vibration, language, card skin and game options.
- Game data: a saved game you can resume, your game history and scores.
- Purchase status: which items you own and whether you sent a tip, so the app can unlock them.
- Your phone's Bluetooth address (Android), cached so other phones can find your table faster.
You can delete all of this at any time by clearing the app's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the app.
2. Playing with phones nearby (Bluetooth)
BlueCard lets you play with people in the same room without internet. Everything below happens directly between the phones involved; nothing passes through our servers, because there are none.
- At the table. When you host or join a table, your player name, avatar and your moves are sent to the other phones at that table so they can show the game. Spectators at the table see the same.
- Announcing a table. While you host a table, your phone broadcasts a small Bluetooth signal containing the table name, the game being played and your phone's Bluetooth address. Phones nearby running BlueCard use it to find and join your table. The broadcast stops when you stop hosting.
- Alerts about tables nearby (Android). If “Tell me about tables nearby” is switched on (Settings), your phone listens for these broadcasts, also when the app is closed and after a restart, so it can notify you. It only reacts to BlueCard signals. You can switch this off in Settings at any time.
- Buzz and turn alerts. Players at the same table can send each other a “buzz”, which vibrates and may show a notification. These alerts are created on your device; we use no push notification service.
Location. BlueCard does not use your location. On Android 11 and older, the system requires the location permission for any Bluetooth scan; BlueCard asks for it only for that reason and never determines or stores where you are. On Android 12 and newer the app declares that Bluetooth scans are never used for location.
3. Advertising (Android)
The free Android app shows ads provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). To show, limit and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process information such as:
- your device's advertising ID,
- your IP address (from which an approximate location may be derived),
- device and app information (such as model, operating system and language), and
- information about the ads you see and tap, and diagnostic data about the SDK.
Google acts as an independent controller for this data. Please read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Your choices.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent (through Google's consent message) before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time under Settings → Ad privacy settings in the app.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device settings (on most Android devices: Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- The “No ads” purchase removes all ads from the app.
The iOS app currently shows no ads and contains no advertising SDK.
4. In-app purchases
Purchases (such as removing ads, premium card designs or a tip) are processed by Google Play. Google handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never receive them. The app receives a confirmation from Google Play of what you bought, which it checks and stores on your device to unlock the item. Your purchases come back automatically when you reinstall the app with the same Google account.
5. Sharing and photos
- Sharing. When you share a result picture, the app hands it to the share sheet of your device. Where it goes next is your choice and is governed by the app you share it with.
- Saving to Photos (iOS). If you choose to save a picture, the app asks for permission to add it to your photo library. It can only add pictures, not read your library.
6. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth (nearby devices) | Find, announce and connect to tables on phones nearby. |
| Location (Android 11 and older only) | Required by Android for Bluetooth scanning. Not used for location. |
| Notifications | Show that a game is running in the background, turn and buzz alerts, and tables nearby. |
| Foreground service | Keep a Bluetooth game connected while the app is in the background. |
| Run at startup | Re-register the alert for tables nearby after your phone restarts (only if that alert is on). |
| Vibration | Turn alerts, buzz and game effects. |
| Local network (iOS) | Find and connect to iPhones nearby to play together. |
| Add to Photos (iOS) | Save a result picture when you ask for it. |
The app does not use the camera, microphone, contacts or your files, apart from the single photo you pick as an avatar.
7. Legal basis (EEA and UK)
Data kept on your device and sent to the phones at your table is used to provide the game you asked for (performance of a contract / our legitimate interest in providing the app). Personalised advertising in the EEA, UK and Switzerland is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time as described above. Non-personalised ads are shown on the basis of our legitimate interest in funding a free app.
8. Retention and deletion
We hold no personal data, so there is nothing for us to delete on a server. Data on your device stays there until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. Other players' phones only keep your name and avatar for the duration of the game (and in their game history as your player name). Data collected by Google for advertising or purchases is retained under Google's policies; you can manage it in your Google account.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in the Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). Because we do not hold your data, most of these rights can be exercised directly in the app or your device settings, or with Google for advertising data. You can always contact us with questions.
10. Children
BlueCard is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us.
11. Security
Game data is exchanged only between phones that join the same table. Communication with Google's advertising and billing services is encrypted in transit by Google's SDKs. Bluetooth game messages are sent over the device's standard Bluetooth connection; please only play at tables you recognise.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date. For significant changes we will also mention it in the app's release notes.
